The Belgrade Philharmonic has entered its third week of strike action, which began on March 3, 2025, in pursuit of two key demands: urgent improvement of Philharmonic employees’ financial situation and the immediate launch of a transparent selection process for a new director of the Belgrade Philharmonic.
During the week leading up to the strike (February 24–28), the Ministry of Culture engaged in dialogue with the strike committee. Ministry representatives held two meetings, one of which was attended by the Culture Minister Selaković. However, since the strike officially began on March 3, there have been no further meetings for the past two weeks, and employees are still awaiting the next round of negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Government of Serbia dismissed Rade Vojnović, the Chairman of the Belgrade Philharmonic’s Managing Board, on a Board’s sitting held on February 27, 2025. However, a new chairperson replacing Vojnović has not yet been appointed, thus preventing the launch of the competition for the orchestra’s new director.
