The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra is back on stage, returning to its regular concert program on Friday night, April 4, at Kolarac (8 PM). Under the baton of its principal guest conductor, Daniel Raiskin, the orchestra will feature a captivating program titled Serene Music, performing works by Shostakovich, Vasks, and Rimsky-Korsakov, with superstar cellist Maximilian Hornung as the evening’s soloist.

This performance of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra showcases the profound beauty of classical music through works spanning different eras and styles. The evening begins with Musica serena by contemporary Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks — an ethereal and meditative piece. It is followed by Shostakovich’s dark and introspective Cello Concerto No. 2, a which reflects the amplitude of composer’s contrasting emotions.

For the first time, the Belgrade audiences will have the chance to experience an extraordinary cellist Maximilian Hornung, hailed as one of the finest musicians on the international stage. Known for his technical brilliance, versatility, and deeply authentic performances, Hornung has captivated audiences worldwide, and will now making his Belgrade debut.

Rounding out the program is mesmerising Scheherazade, a timeless symphonic masterpiece by Rimsky-Korsakov. Inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, the piece is named after its legendary storyteller and remains one of the most dazzling works in the entire orchestral repertoire.
