Belgrade Philharmonic’s Animated Spectacle
The Belgrade Philharmonic and Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz are gearing up for a spectacular event – Walt Disney’s Fantasia – performed live at the famous music outdoor venue at Ušće, in New Belgrade’s Block 13, on Sunday, June 23. All generations are welcome to enjoy the most beautiful animated concert of all time, and the Belgrade Philharmonic reveals which famous pearls of classical music will be performed live under the big screen.
The sensational production Disney Fantasia Live is a compilation of Walt Disney’s original animated feature film “Fantasia” from 1940 and the film “Fantasia 2000,” officially never shown in our region before. The concert will open to the sounds of Beethoven’s famous Fifth Symphony featured in “Fantasia 2000,” followed by parts from Disney’s original film: Beethoven’s Sixth (Pastoral) Symphony, a segment from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, and a special treat – Debussy’s Clair de Lune with an animated sequence omitted from the original “Fantasia” from 1940.
The Belgrade Philharmonic will then play Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite with a unique animation from “Fantasia 2000,” followed by Ponchielli’s legendary Dance of the Hours and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas, with the famous struggle between Mickey Mouse and a broom – which was the starting point for this feature-length masterpiece. The concert finale will include scenes from the new version with Elgar’s Marches from Pomp and Circumstance, Respighi’s Roman Pines and the Carnival ofAnimals by Saint-Saëns.
Around 50,000 people from all over the region are expected to attend the most massive viewing of cartoons at the Belgrade Philharmonic’s third outdoor concert, which starts at 8:30 p.m. The gates for this open-air picnic will be open three hours earlier. Admission is free.
