Like in the old days at eight o’clock— we are serenading. The greatest and most notorious lover in opera history, Don Giovanni, set the standard for this genre with the arias Dalla sua pace and Il mio Tesoro from Mozart’s famous opera.

Britten’s Serenade for tenor, horn, and strings is also a work that explores the hours from dusk till dawn. Its eight songs are impressions of the night in various forms, from pastoral and nocturne to elegy, hymn, and sonnet. This romantic program concludes with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No. 5, conducted by Howard Griffiths.
