Yet another original way to push a few more boundaries in the centennial year of the Orchestra and to celebrate virtuosity is surely the Rachmaninoff marathon. In the year in which the world marks the 150th birth anniversary of this great composer and pianist, we are playing his first, second and third piano concertos. Each of them is performed by a different pianist, thus awarding the audience with the pleasure to experience three different interpretations by female artists with different sensibilities and performing styles. It goes without saying that it’s all happening on the same night, and under the direction of experienced marathon runner, the BPO’s chief conductor Gabriel Feltz.
