We are proudly announcing the new concert season 2017/18, titled The Five Elements, which comprises 25 concerts grouped in five thematic series: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and The Fifth Element.
In the new concert season we will be discovering how the elements that decode the structure of the nature are transformed into sound: how music enables us to hug the earth, hear the air, summon the fire, let the water run over the scores… And when these four primary elements are in harmony, they bring into existence the fifth, invisible element that permeates the universe. The fifth element was also frequently in the focus of attention of artists, while the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra has provided yet another interpretation of it in its season 2017/18, through the musical ideas of the Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz.
In addition to Feltz and Raiskin, the permanent guest conductor as of the season 2017/18, the audience will listen to our orchestra directed by well-known conductors such as Fabrice Bollon, Cristian Mandeal, Uroš Lajovic, Howard Griffiths, Michail Jurowski, Eiji Oue, Hans Graf and John Axelrod.
The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra continues presenting guest artists. Besides the renowned musicians such as Sergei Babayan (piano), Radovan Vlatković (French horn) and Antje Weithaas (violin), we are also introducing artists of the younger generation, including Narek Hakhnazaryan (cello), Alexander Gavrylyuk (piano), David Guerrier (trumpet and French horn), as well as the laureates of prestigious competitions: Simone Rubino (percussions), Lukas Geniušas and Yeol Eum Son (piano).
Much to the delight of the audience, we will again welcome the classical music stars – violinist Vadim Gluzman and harpist Xavier de Maistre, who left a strong impression in the past seasons.
An important aspect of the new season are young, but eminent Serbian artists such as violinist Robert Lakatos and vocal artists Višnja Popov and Evgenija Jeremić. We are especially proud when the members of our orchestra appear as soloists, and the new season will present this opportunity to oboist Sanja Romić, hornist Nikola Ćirić, double bassist Filip Savić, violinist Tijana Milošević, cellists Nemanja Stanković and Aleksandar Latković. Moreover, the orchestra will once again appear together with the Collegium Musicum academic choir.
We hope that you will enjoy the Belgrade Philharmonic’s Five Elements and contemplate the questions raised through music by our Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz:
Don’t we all need to raise our awareness about how to better protect this planet for future generations, to preserve and respect the beauty of the nature? Being ‘firmly rooted in tradition’, shouldn’t we resist the digital age of never-ending online availability with a conscious perception of feelings and time? Because without art as the ‘food for the soul’, and without that magical moment in which people devotedly and earnestly give something to other people, I would personally feel completely ‘uprooted’.
