Our audience will get a lot of “loving” from the Belgrade Philharmonic and Conductor Daniel Raiskin, at the Kolarac Music Hall on Friday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. Affection expressed in countless ways is the theme of our concert series called “Love”. And this time, young Dutch star Simone Lamsma, a violinist with a record-breaking number of views on YouTube, will be performing with the Belgrade Philharmonic for the first time.
The first concert in our “Love” series begins with a mystery! Why did Stanley Kubrick decide to make Fidelio the password for the secret masked ball in his last movie Eyes Wide Shut? The audience will see why after hearing Beethoven’s Overture. In addition to being the name of his only opera, Fidelio is the name used by the heroine, dressed as a guard, to rescue her husband from political prison.
Bartok’s Violin Concerto No. 1 is a testament to the composer’s love for young Hungarian violinist Stefi Geyer, to whom this work has been dedicated, with movements that portray her qualities. The Belgrade audience will be “in her role” as it listens to the fabulous Simone Lamsma, who has already appeared with the world’s most famous orchestras and is also a big star of classical music on YouTube – her poignant performance of the soundtrack from the movie Schindler’s List, has received almost 13 million views.
The second part of the concert is Weber’s Overture to Euryanthe, a romantic opera involving a love quadrangle, filled with mystery and intrigue. Concluding the program is Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss, which is a story of love between a mature woman and a younger man. Those who might be curious about this “love affair” with the Belgrade Philharmonic can buy standing tickets on sale at the Kolarac Ticket Office, one hour before the concert, from 7:00 p.m.
