The Belgrade Philharmonic will perform together with clarinet virtuoso Stojan Krkuleski this Friday (May 10). Under the baton of Valentin Uryupin, the orchestra will present a jazz-inspired program, with works by Antheil, Debussy, Shaw, and Shostakovich.

The audience can expect an exciting concert in the rhythms of jazz and boogie-woogie. One of the most talented musicians from this region and solo clarinetist of Lucerne Symphony Orchestra for the past 10 years, Stojan Krkuleski, will perform with the Belgrade Philharmonic for the first time. This artist has held concerts all around the world, and collaborated with artists known worldwide such as Lahav Shani, Martha Argerich, Daniil Trifonov, Fazil Say, and others.

Stojan will demonstrate his virtuosity, endurance as well as artistic subtlety – first in Debussy’s Rhapsody for clarinet and orchestra, and then the audience will hear the famous high C4. One of the highest notes a clarinet can play, ends the popular Clarinet Concerto by Artie Shaw.

This lush concert program with plenty of good rhythm, charm, and musical fancies, will start with Antheil’s Jazz Symphony which combines jazz style with symphonic tradition. The evening will culminate with Shostakovich’s brilliant Jazz Suite No. 2, which enriches the usual symphonic sound with the timbres of saxophone, guitar and accordion.

The concert is completely sold out, but standing tickets will be available for purchase an hour before the performance, ie. from 7 PM at the Kolarac ticket office.
