After finishing his piano degree at the Peabody Conservatory of the John Hopkins University, he became the first Spaniard awarded with the “Bruno Walter” scholarship for orchestra conducting, to study at the Juilliard School of Music with important conductors such as Otto Werner Mueller, Charles Dutoit or Yuri Temirkanov.

In 2002 he founded the Ciudad de Gijón Symphony Orchestra and in 2013 the Barbieri Symphony Orchestra, becoming the artistic director and principal conductor of both institutions.
He has more than a dozen published CDs, recorded for prestigious labels as NAXOS or Warner Music Spain, among others.

His career has led him to conduct orchestras such as the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatro del Liceo, Comunidad Valenciana Orchestra or the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, to name a few. Also, he has collaborated with international orchestras, such as the New Amsterdam Symphony, the Cluj Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sibiu Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Lima Symphony Orchestra.

He has also performed in important theaters like the Palau de Les Arts (Valencia), Teatro Campoamor (Oviedo), Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid), Teatro Real (Madrid), Gran Teatro del Liceo (Barcelona) or Teatro de la Maestranza (Seville). In addition, he is the first Spanish conductor to make his debut in the pit of the prestigious Helikon Theater in Moscow.

The 17/18 season is a step forward to his career, debuting in the concert seasons of Spanish orchestra’s such as RTVE Orchestra of Madrid, the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra and Valencia Orchestra. He has been re invited to the Helikon Theater in Moscow, for a new production of Trovatore and collaborates regularly in Oviedo for Opera as well as Zarzuela productions.

Since 2015 he is the Musical Director of the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, and is founder member and vice-president of the Spanish Association of Orchestra Conductors (AESDO).
