On break during today’s dress rehearsal, a part of the musicians of the Belgrade Philharmonic decided to pay tribute to the victims of the tragedy in Novi Sad as a personal act.
While the musicians were gathered on the crosswalk in Uzun Mirkova street, they were hit by a vehicle that passed through the gathered group of people without stopping. Four musicians of the Belgrade Philharmonic were injured in this incident. Members of the police arrived at the location of the incident shortly afterward to take statements, and ambulance workers tended to the injured and drove them to the emergency center to receive medical care.
The Belgrade Philharmonic is an institution that is foremost responsible to its employees and therefore most harshly condemns the violence conducted against them while they were expressing their personal civic opinion. In the fight for a better society rising above political divides, the Philharmonic will hold the concert scheduled for tonight at 8PM at Grand Hall of the Kolarac foundation under the baton of Daniel Raiskin, and the concert will be dedicated to colleagues injured in today’s incident.
Throughout its history, the Belgrade Philharmonic has performed in very difficult moments and will continue to strive in building a better society through music.
The Belgrade Philharmonic asks the media for appropriate and unbiased reporting, and law enforcement agencies to do everything in their jurisdiction regarding today’s incident.
