The Orchestra will play a piece inspired by a chat in a taxi.
On Friday, December 23, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will take the Kolarac Hall stage together with conductor Daniel Raiskin and violinist Simone Lamsma, at 8 p.m., performing the piece of one of the greatest living composers – Sofia Gubaidulina’s Offertorium, as well as Tchaikovsky’s
Manfred Symphony.
This will be the second performance of the fantastic Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. She is also a well-coordinated tandem with Daniel Raiskin, the principal guest conductor of the BPO. This time she will play a famous work by the legendary composer Sofia Gubaidulina. The story behind Offertorium was unusual, as an idea for the pieceoriginated after a conversation between the composer and the famous violinist Gidon Kremer, while they were once sharing a taxi ride. The piece, which is one of the most popular contemporarconcerts today, is also dedicated to Kremer.
The concert will also praise the most ambitious symphonic project of Tchaikovsky – the voluminous Manfred Symphony. The piece is based on Lord Byron’s poem and is the composer’s greatest symphonic work, both in terms of length and instrumentation. In addition to the grandiose repertoire, the audience will have the opportunity on Friday to hear attractive instruments: Simone Lamsma plays Mlynarski Stradivarius from 1718, and the sound of the organ will be heard in the monumental Manfred Symphony.
