Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz and the Belgrade Philharmonic with guest pianist Sunwook Kim will perform Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2 The Age of Anxiety for the first time at Kolarac Hall on Friday, April 1 at 8:00 p.m. The concert program also includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat major.
Two exceptional and completely different works written for piano and orchestra make up the program of this unusual concert. The soloist of Mozart’s piano concerto and Bernstein’s symphony will be the outstanding Korean pianist Sunwook Kim, winner of numerous international competitions, who in his biography, in addition to many engagements, made last year’s debut with the Berlin Philharmonic.
Fans of Leonard Bernstein, one of the most prominent musical figures of the 20th century, will have the opportunity to hear his Symphony No. 2 The Age of Anxiety performed by the Belgrade Philharmonic for the first time ever. It is titled after British-American poet Wystan Hugh Auden’s poem of the same name. The story follows four foreigners who meet in a New York bar during the war and share their views on life. Thus, through the composition can be heard their conversation about the ages from birth to death, the symbolic search for “prehistoric happiness,” the lamentation over their fallen father figure, and the image of a night party with a jazz-style love story, while through the epilogue at dawn, they all finally opt to turn in and return to their everyday lives.
Tickets are on sale at the Belgrade Philharmonic’s box-office, as well as online.
