The music world is now left without legendary conductor Michail Jurowski, a member of the famous music dynasty. Jurowski was the son of composer Vladimir Yurovskiy and the grandson of conductor David Blok, and his successors Vladimir and Dmitri are also internationally recognized conductors. Michail Jurowski grew up in a circle of world-famous artists of the former Soviet Union, such as Oistrakh, Rostropovich, Kogan, Gilels, and Khachaturian. Dmitri Shostakovich was a close family friend, so he and Michail not only talked often, but also played piano works together in four hands. That is why it is no coincidence that Michail Jurowski was considered one of the best interpreters of Shostakovich’s works.

Jurowski was a frequent guest and great friend of the Belgrade Philharmonic. Not only his performances with the orchestra are remembered, of which there were a total of 10 in the period from 2010 to 2019, but also every rehearsal, every conversation, the unforgettable jokes and anecdotes he shared from his rich life.

There were many special moments from those joint performances, but one of the biggest compliments to the Belgrade Philharmonic stands out – when, after performing Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, Maestro Jurowski bowed to the orchestra. To the beloved conductor, the Belgrade Philharmonic pays its deepest tribute, with gratitude for all the moments of joint music creation.
