The Belgrade Philharmonic and Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz are preparing a concert night of Johannes Brahms at Kolarac Hall on Friday, February  11, at 8:00 p.m. In addition to the two symphonic works by this composer, Variations on a Theme by Haydn and the popular Symphony No. 3, the program also includes Weber’s Overture to the Opera “Oberon.“

The famous question “Do you like Brahms?” refers to a large part of this concert program. The central work on the program is the composer’s Third Symphony, whose popularity is evidenced by the fact that even the author himself considered the symphony as too popular and over-performed despite being very much aware of its value. Fans of the old classic film Goodbye Again starring Ingrid Bergman, Anthony Perkins, and Yves Montand, inspired by the novel Aimez-vous Brahms by Françoise Sagan, will especially enjoy this concert, especially the famous melody of its 3rd movement. The performance of this masterpiece is preceded by Variations on a Theme by Haydn premiered by the Vienna Philharmonic, with the author himself behind the conductor’s desk.

Gabriel Feltz and the Belgrade Philharmonic open the concert with the magical and mystical Oberon Overture by Carl Maria von Weber, which after several decades is once again on the program of the Belgrade Philharmonic. Oberon is based on the story of the elf king, who argued with his wife about who was less faithful in marriage, men or women. The story of how these intriguing temptations sound in musical language will be presented by the Belgrade Philharmonic on Friday.
