Violoncello Concerto No. 1
D. Shostakovich
Symphony No. 10
We are presenting another evening of Russian symphonic classics, this time in the unique and inspiring interpretation of our Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz. The composer, Dmitri Shostakovich, dedicated his Cello Concerto No. 1 to his friend Mstislav Rostropovich, who committed it to memory in only four days and gave the premiere in Leningrad in October of 1959, with the first recording made two days later in Moscow. Today, the work is considered to be one of the most difficult concerted works for cello. It will be presented to the Belgrade audience by an old acquaintance and favorite of visitors of our concerts: the Canadian-German cellist with Zemun roots, Johannes Moser.
