26/05/16

The final concert of the series For Adventurers, on Friday 27 May, at 8pm (Kolarac), is dedicated to James Bond, the spy whose name is the synonym of adventure. For the first time, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will play music from the films about the secret agent 007, under the leadership of conductor Gabriel Feltz. The concert’s adventurous spirit will be enhanced by Milan Ristić’s Symphony No 2 and the oboe virtuoso François Leleux, who will showcase his skills in the performance of Bohuslav Martinů’s Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra.

The selection of music themes from the famous film series is a digest of the fifty-year-long saga about Bond music, with all its ebbs and flows, surprises and disappointments, catastrophes and triumphs… The author of the James Bond theme, Monty Norman, came up with the tune, which was later arranged by John Barry into music that befits a dangerous spy, and so the genre of spy film music was born. From Goldfinger to Casino Royale, the audience will join the musical adventures of the irresistible British agent.

“The concert dedicated to adventurers is a summary of musical tendencies of the 1950s and 1960s, which are typically a blend of classical music, pop and jazz. Accordingly, our adventure will start with Milan Ristić’s neoclassical Symphony No 2, an extraordinary example of Serbian music history. It will continue with Martinů’s contemporary-classical Oboe concerto, and triumphantly end with the suggestive and seductive musical espionage”, said Gabriel Feltz, General Music Director of the Dortmund Opera and Chief Conductor of the Dortmund Philharmonic.

Recognised throughout the world as the best oboist of his generation, François Leleux enjoys an international career appearing with major orchestras and at important venues and festivals, performing repertoire from the baroque to newly commissioned works. He will enhance the adventurous concert with his oboe bravura in the vivacious, humorous and dynamic piece by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů.

Through five concerts in the season 2015/16, the series For Adventurers has presented unusual, brand-new and contemporary concepts, as well as atypical instruments. As one of the most sought-after programmes in the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s new season, it will continue connecting the apparently non-connectable and presenting the boldest international musical artists.
