For Beginners 1
S. Prokofiev:
Classical Symphony
R. Vaughan Williams:
Lark Ascending
L. van Beethoven:
Symphony No. 6
The first concert of this series will be opened, unconventionally, by a female conductor. Catherine Larsen-Maguire will introduce our beginners to Sergei Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony, the piece of a 20th century composer written in the style of an 18th century genius, imbuing the tradition with the freshness of modernism and the sarcasm of his period. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending, played by the BPO Concertmaster Miroslav Pavlović, is one of those hidden pearls, which will surely bring tears to your eyes with its romantic phrases, while Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, a piece brimming with pastoral motifs, is a required reading for every beginner who seriously considers becoming a true admirer of symphonic music.
