This Wednesday we are presenting an audio recording from January 2015 of Antonín Dvořák’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor performed by the Belgrade Philharmonic under the baton of Fabrice Bollon and featuring cellist Nemanja Stanković.

During his three-year stay in New York City, as head of the National Conservatory of Music of America, Dvořák tried to fulfill his longing for his native Bohemia by composing. The United States seemed to have awakened in him a creative energy that he poured into his three most significant works: Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), String Quartet Op. 96 (American) and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor, his last work performed on the North American continent. This piece is one of the most highly regarded of all cello concertos, abounding in rich melodic ideas and interesting orchestration.
