Adam Luther
Adam Luther is one of Canada’s most exciting tenors, with a repertoire ranging from Janacek to Mozart to Puccini. In addition to his debut with the Belgrade Philharmonic this season, he will be heard with Maestro Raiskin in Winnipeg, followed by an extensive seven city tour of Dutch capitals, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Canadian Forces liberation of the Netherlands at the close of World War II. Further engagements for 2019/2020 include Puccini’s Il tabarro as Luigi with Pacific Opera Victoria and A Viennese New Year with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra. Returning to Canada after a year in Germany, he was heard as Graf Tassilo in Gräfin Mariza for Pacific Opera Victoria, Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette for Calgary Opera, an Opera Gala for the Niagara Symphony and a New Year’s Gala for Victoria Symphony. Alfredo in La traviata for Manitoba Opera, Lensky in Eugene Onegin with Calgary Opera, ‘Salute to Vienna’ for audiences in the US and Canada, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Kitchener- Waterloo and Edmonton Symphonies are highlights of recent seasons. An Alumnus of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, his roles with the company include Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer and Jaquino in Beethoven’s Fidelio. Anatol in Samuel Barber’s Vanessa was his first role for Pacific Opera Victoria and he has sung Rodolfo in La bohème with Against the Grain Theatre, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Danilo in Die lustige Witwe with Toronto Operetta Theatre and Jirka in Dvorak’s The Devil and Kate with Opera in Concert. Further credits include Stefano in Filumena in Banff, and Stravinksy’s Renard and Le Rossignol at Opéra de Québec. The Newfoundland native has been featured as Rodolfo in La bohème for Minnesota Opera and as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly for Michigan Opera Theatre and Vancouver Opera. Mr. Luther has been a featured soloist with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Sounds of the Festival in Parry Sound, Aldeburgh Connection and the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as a Diploma in Opera from both Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Toronto.
