The official closure of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert season on 16 June, under the leadership of Uroš Lajovic, was marked by heroic themes as the orchestra performed Beethoven’s Eroica symphony and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Between these two pieces, the orchestra was joined by soloist Istvan Vardai for Haydn’s Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in C major.
 
“We played the Napoleonic programme, ideal for the end of the concert season. Beethoven wrote Eroica for Napoleon, Haydn had a special relationship with him, whereas the 1812 Overture celebrates the victory against Napoleon”, said Uroš Lajovic, former Chief Conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.
 
In addition to 25 concerts at Kolarac, five additional concerts of the Philharmania series and the Philharmonic Theatre chamber concerts, highlights of the orchestra’s season also include guest appearances at the famous Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the prestigious Müpa in Budapest and the NOMUS Festival, as well as the Philharmonic Plays North tour of northern Serbia.
 
The concert season will be wrapped up by the free open-air concert of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and its new Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz and featuring the celebrated Maestro Zubin Mehta as the special guest, on 25 June in the New Belgrade Block 13, between Ušće and the Palace of Serbia.
