The Belgrade Philharmonic presents a serenade-inspired concert of British composers, conducted by Howard Griffiths on Friday, November 15 (Kolarac, 8 p.m.). The program features renowned tenor Ian Bostridge and the Philharmonic’s principal horn, Nikola Ćirić, performing works by Britten, Elgar, and Vaughan Williams.

Just Like in the Old Days at Eight – the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra plays serenades. The concert opens with Elgar’s Salut d’Amour, a famous romantic piece dedicated to his future wife as an engagement gift, now considered one of the most celebrated love themes in music history.

Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings will bring together top-tier performers on the Philharmonic stage. Ian Bostridge, a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and one of the world’s most distinguished tenors, has graced prominent concert halls, leading orchestras, and opera houses globally. This piece captures the impressions of night in eight songs, performed together with the Belgrade Philharmonic’s very own hornist Nikola Ćirić, who celebrates a special anniversary with the Orchestra:

With this concert, I’m marking my ten years with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, a small but meaningful milestone. I believe this is my ninth solo appearance with the Belgrade Philharmonic – for someone who’s 32, it’s a real honor to have played so often with our national orchestra. While I’m thrilled to perform with any orchestra around the world, performing with my Philharmonic is a true privilege. Britten’s Serenade presents a unique challenge – it’s unlike any repertoire I’ve played before. Here, the horn must blend with the tenor voice without disrupting the overall harmony. Britten composed this piece for Dennis Brain, a legendary horn player capable of accomplishing all, so Britten had wrote it all! shared Nikola Ćirić.

Under the familiar baton of Maestro Howard Griffiths, the Belgrade Philharmonic’s romantic program will round up with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No. 5.

Tickets are now available at the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s box office as well as online.
