The legendary Maestro Zubin Mehta conducted his second concert with the Belgrade Philharmonic at a packed Kolarac Concert Hall last night. After a fifteen-minute standing ovation, he addressed the audience:
„Ladies and gentlemen, I have been coming to your great country for many, many years. I can tell you, after conducting all the great orchestras of the world, this is one of the best.
Don’t underestimate them, and we will all wait for the new Hall, which I have seen the plans for – it all looks good. Let’s wait and expect your government and other governments to support us, and all the best.
I hope to come to Serbia soon.“
With these words, the great Zubin Mehta concluded last night’s concert with the Belgrade Philharmonic (October 12th 2024).
The incomparable Maestro, one of the greatest conductors of all time, performed together with theBelgrade Philharmonic for the fifteenth and sixteenth time this October, as the Philharmonic belongs to a select circle of orchestras he particularly prefers to collaborate with. On this occasion, the Maestro also had the opportunity to meet the architect Amanda Levete, the author of the design for the Belgrade Philharmonic’s new concert hall. For this project, which Mehta has been supporting from its very beginning, Levete presented the plans to the Maestro in detail.
The Saturday concert was attended by the Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, to whom Maestro Mehta proclaimed words of praise and deep respect for the Belgrade Philharmonic, singling it out as a world-class orchestra and the finest cultural institution in Serbia.
The event was also attended by HRH Crown Prince Alexander, as well as many members of the diplomatic corps, cultural and public scene in Serbia.
