After almost two decades, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, led by chief-conductor Gabriel Feltz and accompanied by the Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno, will perform a majestic musical piece –Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Mass in B Minor on Friday, January 19th, at 8:00 PM at Kolarac Concert Hall.
Bach surely breathed a sigh of relief when he completed his Mass in B Minor, aware that he had created a monumental piece. It not only represents a synthesis of the composer’s creativity but is also one of the most significant vocal-instrumental pieces of the entire Baroque era.
This repertoire, rarely featured in the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s programs, presents yet another new challenge for the orchestra, along with conductor Gabriel Feltz.
In addition to international soloists such as soprano Vera Talerko, mezzo-soprano Beth Taylor, tenor Julian Haberman, and bass-baritone Simon Robinson, the Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno will once again join the orchestra.
Due to its grandiosity, the 100 minutes of music in this Mass were not suitable even for the most solemn church services. The complete work was first performed in 1859, more than a hundred years after Bach’s death.
There is great interest in the performance of this masterpiece by the Philharmonic, and standing-room-only tickets will be available for purchase one hour before the concert at the Kolarac box office.
