In addition to standard repertoire, in the jubilee season, we are also presenting works that are curiosities on world concert stages. Our principal guest conductor Daniel Raiskin premiers the Gaelic Symphony of the American composer and pianist Amy Beach, who lived and composed at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. In the classical music history, she was known as the first female composer with acclaimed career and whose works were performed by major American orchestras during her lifetime. The Gaelic Symphony is the first symphony composed and published by an American female artist, with motifs based on simple old English, Irish and Scottish melodies. The concert night is thematically complemented with Elgar’s overture Cockaigne (In London Town), which vividly depicts the London life in the Edwardian era, as well as M. Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. Soloist Alexandra Conunova is an awarded violinist, winner of several major prizes, including the first prizes at the Tchaikovsky and Joseph Joachim International Violin Competitions. She has performed with some of the most famous conductors and ensembles throughout Europe.
